Kenny Wallace Enters Summit National Modified Event Plus Indiana Late Model Series In Action

The roar of engines will be noticeable from the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds this coming Sunday evening, as the Terre Haute Action Track is back in action with a Father’s Day Special event.  The Summit Nationals will be held for the Scott’s Custom Colors UMP Modifieds in addition to a visit from the Indiana Late Model Series.  Many will be taking their dad to the races for a low price of $15.  NASCAR’s Kenny Wallace will also be on hand racing in the Summit Nationals event.

The 2016 Summit Nationals is a grueling tour for UMP Modifieds that was scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 15 at Brownstown IN Speedway but was rained out.  The tour ends in mid-July, running just about every day during that period.  The Terre Haute Action Track event this Sunday will be just the second on the schedule, following Kankakee Co Speedway on Thursday after the Brownstown cancelation. Last year, 23 Modifieds attended the vent with Bloomington, IN’s Bradley Sterrett taking the $1,000 top prize.  Tyler Nicely, Josh Harris, Ken Schrader, and Dave Baldwin were the rest of the top five. Drivers from several different states are expected to attend.

NASCAR personality and former full-time driver, Kenny Wallace, has also announced his intentions to fly out of Charlotte, NC on Sunday afternoon, following his TV show, to compete with the Modifieds.  Wallace did not compete in the Summit Nationals event in Terre Haute last year, but will be in the field Sunday, challenging an already stout collection of racers.

Also on tap this weekend will be the Indiana Late Model Series.  The tour is based out of Brownstown IN Speedway and typically has large fields of cars.  This year, fields in upwards of 30 cars have competed at many of the events.  Fans can expect to see a solid field this coming Sunday, going for the top prize.  So far, there have been six races in 2016 with four rainouts.  Marty Oneal has claimed two wins, Hudson Oneal three wins, and Raymond Humphrey took the most recent trophy.  The last race saw 32 cars on the entry list.

Rounding out the slate of events will be a special visit from the Terre Haute Quarter Midget Club.  They will have a picnic on the infield and their youngsters will do a lap at intermission around the 1/2-mile.

Sunday’s events are presented by Hi99 FM, Scott’s Custom Colors, and Scheid Diesel.

Sunday, June 19 pit gates will open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, drivers meetings will be held at 5:30, and hotlaps will begin at 6:00.  Racing action is set to take the green at 7:00.  General admission is $15, infield admission $10, and kids 10 and under are free.
