(Indianapolis, IN) The DIRTcar Modifieds returned to the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center for this year’s edition of the Hoosier Hundred presented by TBA Oil & Warehouse. The field was 18 strong, racing for the $2,000 top prize on the 1-mile track. The event was run in conjunction with the 100-lap Silver Crown race, drawing thousands of fans to the grandstands.

The cars were split up for qualifying sessions, which saw perennial favorite, Joey Kramer and David Shain set the fast laps in their respective groups. Unfortunately for Kramer, despite setting the fastest overall time by over one second, and that’s not a typo, mechanical issues ended his night before the feature.

When the green dropped on the 15-lap affair, Tyler Nicely took off in front of the field. Nicely controlled the pace for the first six laps of the event, with Shain in tow. Mechanical woes ended Nicely’s run after six laps, however, handing the lead to Shain.

Shain controlled the pace for the next three paces of the mile oval before mechanical gremlins took over under a yellow flag. That handed the top spot to retired NASCAR driver, Ken Schrader, who is always a top runner at the big dirt ovals. Schrader avoided any issues over the last six laps and went on to claim the top prize.

Following Schrader across the line were Curt Spaulding, Jesse Snyder, Justin Gregory, and Michael Kettnich. William Cooper, David Daugherty, Daren Krockenberger, Rick Weitekamp, and Brian Heizer finished off the top ten.

The event saw a great resurgence of cars for the Modifieds, after only having six two years ago. Some of that was weather related, but the Mods showed plenty of support in this year’s event.
